Facebook-Profanity

Facebook Fan Pages can be an excellent avenue for community interaction, but they also serve as a face of a company. So when a disgruntled or perhaps an overzealous customer or fan drops the f-bomb before you have time to moderate it, what do you do?

Fortunately, there are two ways to prevent this:

Option One: Create a Blocklist

Are there certain words you don’t want anyone to write on your page? Facebook allows you to create your own specific blocklist. If this sounds like the right approach for your page, this is how you do it:

  1. From the top of your Page, click Edit Page and select Edit Settings
  2. Click Page Moderation
  3. Type the terms you want to block in the field, separated by commas
  4. Click Save Changes

Option Two: Toggle the Profanity Filter

This option is probably the best approach for most users, as it hands the moderation over to Facebook’s automated system. To choose one of the filter options, follow the steps below:

  1. From the top of your Page, click Edit Page and select Edit Settings
  2. Click Profanity Filter
  3. Select an option from the menu next to Profanity Filter: None (Off), Medium or Strong
  4. Click Save Changes

And there you have it! After choosing either of these options, your page should now be guarded from the nastier written impulses of your fan base.
