G oogle’s ground-breaking logo redesign (not)
As the old saying goes, the more things change, the more they stay the same – at least in the case of Google’s new logo, which looks an awful lot like Google’s old logo. Just a bit more… updated?
In an effort to stay with the times as the design world goes flat, Google’s updated logo is not much of a radical change in terms of shape, form and function. But the update and the reactions around the Internet are very similar to Yahoo!’s recent hilariously anti-climactic “30 Days of Change” campaign, which, despite 30 different logos presented to the public each day, resulted in a something not too different from the original. Perhaps Google should have just run its name through the Logo Designer – a website that will simply “Yahoo!-ize” your logo for you!
But in the case of Google, we have to say we’re quite pleased to see that the gaudy ’90s-riffic embossed look is gone for good.
On the other hand, Google is also significantly upgrading the account interface for users. In place of the ol’ horizontal black bar, Google is implementing a pop-out apps grid. Not to mention, check out the glossy new icons to match Google’s new “flat” branding:
