Anyone who has been shopping for a wedding dress knows the challenges of finding the perfect one – the perfect fit, the perfect mood, the perfect design – everything has to sync before that dress is found. Working with a graphic designer to build your website isn’t so different; you might not burst into tears when you finally get the perfect website, but the process is remarkably similar.

Here are a few similarities, and why buying a wedding dress is just like building a website, plus the full infographic after the jump!

1) Communicate

When the process begins, you should have a basic idea of what you want. While it’s important to keep an open mind, there are also endless options and directions to go in. If you know what you like, as well as what you don’t – and you communicate that to your consultant – you’ll be that much closer to finding the perfect fit.

2) Know when to stop

We said there were endless options, and we meant it. You could shop forever if you wanted, but that’s not going to get you very far. Sure, you could hit every bridal store in the city before choosing your dress, or you could change everything on your website until you turn blue – the background pattern, the logo color, the font style – but chances are your early instincts were the ones to follow.

3) Trust the experts

A bridal consultant is a bridal consultant for a reason: they were trained to do this, and they have a lot of experience behind them. In addition to establishing good communication, you should trust the professionals to lead you in the right direction – and it’s no different with web design.

4) Know your budget

If you only have $2000 to spend on a dress (or website), let your consultant know that so they can offer you an appropriate selection. It’s only going to break hearts and waste everyone’s time if you decide that $5000 dress is the one you want – because you’re not going to get it. With a price point in mind for a website, you get what you pay for.

5) Be honest

At the end of the day, a dress must represent you, just like a website represents your brand. Sure, you might like the Kate Middleton wedding dress, but is it really you? Be honest with yourself when you make your choice, and that’s when you’ll find the perfect dress – or website – for you.
