Pantone Color of the Year, 2013: Emerald

17-5641_Emerald_MiniSwatchEvery year, Pantone representatives from around the world meet in secret to discuss and choose the next “Pantone Color of the Year” – a color that will not just influence trends in design, but will also represent the world in connection with the Zeitgeist – the “spirit” of the world.

For 2013, the color chosen to represent the year’s trends in fashion, design, and everything in between is PANTONE 17-5641. According to the Pantone press release, Emerald was chosen because it is a “a vivid, verdant green, enhances our sense of well-being further by inspiring insight as well as promoting balance and harmony.” We could all use a little bit of harmony, right?

Emerald is certainly a “wow” color in fashion and interior design when used for color blocking. In design, we like to use it as a call to action or accent color alongside warm browns and and other neutral colors.
